Why "if you bought the first call" numbers mislead
What-if tables are fun and useful, but they flatter the past. The first call is usually posted to many people at once, the price moves within seconds, and the first candle can already include a big jump.
What the number does tell you
It tells you whether the call was early relative to the move that followed. A token that is 0.3x of its first-call price an hour later was a late or bad call, whatever the peak was.
What it hides
Fees, slippage on thin pools, failed transactions and the simple fact that nobody sells at the exact top. Treat the peak multiple as an upper bound you will almost never get, and the current multiple as the honest score.
